In the aim of conserving the traditional artisanal handcrafts that are facing extinction day after day, and within the Herafiyat project implemented by Almidan NGO several years ago, Mrs. Rima Frangieh, president of Almidan NGO, inaugurated a fabric for teaching sewing, in the yield of Kfaryachit Church – Zgharta caza. It contains four machines for carpets sewing, offered by Mr. Toufic Moawad.
The objective of this project is to encourage women learning the manufacture of this artisanal product, in addition to help them marketing it and developing its production.
In the beginning, Mr. George Wakim, the head of Kfaryachit municipality, presented his gratitude to Almidan NGO for this initiative that enjoyed the people of Kfaryachit and attracted a big number of women from the area that were curious to know about the manufacturing of this artisanal handcraft. Moreover, Mrs. Evelyne Isaak, explained in details the history of this artisanal sewing and the techniques of producing it in a simple way.
In the end, Mrs. Frangieh visited the fabric, previewed the carpets sewing manufacturing process, hoped that the artisanal Lebanese handcrafts will not be extinct and will have a good financial income. Also, Mrs. Frangieh insisted that Almidan NGO will have the main role in assuring a sustainable rural development.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the local community of Kfaryachit and the head of the Union of Zgharta Caza Municipalities, Mr. Tony Sleiman.
